Due to “the changing nature of the market place,” Simon & Schuster is reducing and reorganizing its staff of field sales reps, eliminating nine salespeople and leaving a new structure of just seven field reps: John Muse (MA, CT, RI and parts of NY); Tim Hepp (parts of PA, NJ, VA, MD and Washington, DC); Leah Hays (IL, OH, WI, MN); Michael Smith (Hastings, other select retailers); Amy Schoppert (WA, OR, CO); Kelly Stidham (CA, AZ); Laura Webb (LA, SF, UT). Book technology veteran Scott Lubeck has taken over as executive director of the Book Industry Study Group. Most recently vp of technology for Wolters Kluwer Health, Professional and Education, Lubeck has worked at Harvard Business School Publishing, Newsstand, Perseus Books Group and National Academy Press. Kate Rados is joining Chelsea Green in the new position of director of digital initiatives, shaping overall digital strategy from web/mobile development, to digital publishing, to digital marketing and social media. Angus is in charge of loyalty marketing programs and initiatives, “including directing the development of customer relationship marketing strategies as well as enhancing and growing the Borders Rewards loyalty program. Richard Marek reports to us that longtime book editor Joyce Engelson died on Christmas of pneumonia. In her long career she was editor-in-chief at Abelard Schuman, executive editor of The Dial Press, editor-in-chief of Richard Marek Publishers at St. Martin’s and Putnam, editor-in-chief of Dutton, and editor at large for Crown. Among the hundreds of authors she edited were Richard Condon, Samuel Shem, Norman Cousins, Heywood Hale Broun, Irving Howe, Gael Green and Ishmael Reed. Ingram Content Group’s chief strategy officer James Gray will leave the company at the end of the year. He has been at Ingram since 2006, when they purchsed his company Coutts Information Services and MyiLibrary (which provide print and ebook distribution services to academic libraries the world over). Gray had been ceo of Ingram Digital up until that unit was integrated as a component of the merged Ingram Content Group in June. His position expires with his departure and will not be filled. Spokesman Keel Hunt notes it was “a position that was established for James.”
