Journalist and novelist Ward Just, 84, died Thursday of Lewy body dementia. His novel Echo House was a National Book Award finalist and his novel An Unfinished Season was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 2005. Romance novelist Johanna Lindsey, 67, died on October 27 in Nashua, NH. She wrote almost 60 novels that sold more than 60 million copies. Take Us With You
One more reminder: Our custom PM News App is a great way to monitor as much of the news and deals as you care to from your mobile devices while you are out of the office for the holidays. It provides easy access to all of our most frequently updated items, which can be read “in app” without having to link back to the site. (We will be keeping an eye on things throughout the holiday stretch and reporting and clipping links as warranted — as well as processing deal, posting jobs, and more.) To load the app just point […]
Thanks, and Giving
Since PublishersMarketplace.com was started just over 18 years ago (a year and half or so after we created Publishers Lunch), our constant focus has been on doing more for our members all the time. This year we have spent a lot of effort on explaining ourselves better — through deal reporting tips and policies, a big writer’s guide to PM, live tours and now a condensed video tour of some of our key features, and even a short video showing some of what’s behind the paywall for non-members. (We’ve also helped explain the business itself through the years-in-the-making new initiative […]

There’s no easy way of doing the same thing for all the big databases and features behind the paywall at PM but to help inspire you to have a look, use time-limited code fifteen19 […]
A Digression, On Wearing No. 19
In most circles round numbers are the ones of special note, but if you lived in Baltimore in the 1960s, the magic of the number 19 was instantly recognizable, since that was what Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas wore on his jersey. Known as “The Golden Arm,” Unitas was in the vanguard of modern quarterbacks and still ranks as among the greatest ever. To make this publishing related, the Colts used to hold summer pre-season training on the campus of a college in Westminster, MD, three miles away from what’s now better known as the home of Penguin Random House’s largest […]
Introducing PM Site Tour
In response to user questions, we have put together a brief tutorial on how to use the Publishers Marketplace website. This short screencast highlights some of the most popular features of PM, as well as a few less-known but useful gems, to help you learn how to maximize our website’s benefits. A free version is available to nonmembers, which includes screenshots from behind the paywall, showing what some of our most popular members-only features look like. Click here to view.
