More Search Power

August 16, 2013By Michael Cader

We received a lot of great feedback on our new and expanded Super Search feature at PublishersMarketplace.com the other week. Now we have rolled in our “reviewers” data, and next we’ll be adding our big collection of over 80,000 book reviews from almost 11 years. (After that, if we can figure out a good way to do it, we will fold in our massive database of bestseller data.) The feature is far enough along that we recommend you try it (and bookmark it) as the first place to try for most of your common PM searches. The default setting will […]

Super Summer Searching

July 30, 2013By Michael Cader

We mentioned back in May the beta introduction of our long-in-the-making “Super Search” feature at PublishersMarketplace.com, building a powerful one-stop search engine that looks across multiple PM databases and features. We have ramped up the development and rollout since then, and now Super Search is really beginning to fulfill our aspirations. The biggest addition was the integration of all Publishers Lunch Deluxe news posts as well as the hundreds of thousands of news highlights and links stored in the PL Automat (a secret publishing news search engine in its own right). So now one search provides fast matches across Contacts, […]

Search Better

May 3, 2013By Michael Cader

We have been working for a long time now on a system to help PM members conduct better, faster and more revealing searches on our site–to find what you want, but also to reveal more of the depth and breadth of information from across the site. We’re calling it Super Search, and we’re ready for you to take the early beta for a spin. As you will see, for now it searches all at once across Contacts, Dealmakers, Deals and Member Pages–together some of the most frequently searched and visited PM features. Results are nested in four sub-sections. It searches […]

Google’s Planned Death of Reader Starts RSS Scramble

March 14, 2013By Michael Cader

Google announced Wednesday that their RSS feed aggregator Reader will be “retired” July 1, claiming that “over the years usage has declined.” The announcement led to venting online and a quick scramble for recommendations for comparable services–and at least Google has provided enough advance notice to let others fill the gap they are creating. At PublishersMarketplace we have provided literally thousands of RSS feeds for years–including one for every Dealmaker we track–and we serve well over 10,000 RSS requests a day. While it’s not substitute for Google Reader, we’ll use this opportunity to remind readers of the handy, somewhat under-utilized […]

Milestones, Missed

November 13, 2012By Michael Cader

Like many of you we’re still working on getting back to normal after the storm. Along the way we missed taking note of a variety of interesting milestones. Most importantly, we missed our very own anniversary, marking 11 lucky years of PublishersMarketplace.com. As members may recall, we often try to schedule a technological gift or two in alignment with our birthday. We have a big one on the way this year, which will truly offer “something for everyone,” but storm delays have bumped the unveiling to next month. (There are some other surprises in the works for early next year, […]

Speaking of Stats

August 9, 2012By Michael Cader

We have a few interesting numbers of our own to share with you. Last month saw our highest traffic ever at PublishersMarketplace.com, just shy of 2 million true visitor page views (leaving out all the spiders and bots). Indeed our traffic has been strong all year, up about 18 percent over last year. Then as we started paging back, we saw that in fact, our traffic has consistently grown about 18 percent a year for at least the last five years. As regular readers and visitors know, that’s without any stunts to artificially boost site traffic, like jumping our daily […]
