John Williams is joining as books editor on September 6. He was previously at the books desk of the New York Times, where he edited the section’s staff critics.
Managing editor for diversity and inclusion Krissah Thompson and deputy features editor Mitch Rubin write in the announcement, “John will lead our award-winning nonfiction and fiction books team, hiring new writers and working with colleagues to reach new audiences. We believe in books coverage that revels in the life of the mind and big ideas and is also consumer-oriented, giving book lovers the information they need as they choose what to read.”
