Nobel for France's Le Clezio
As promised, the Nobel judges continue to think most highly of European writers, naming Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, 68, the winner of the 2008 prize for literature. Le Clezio is “regarded by some French readers as one of the country’s greatest living writers,” the NYT notes, and his work ranges from novels to children’s books and essays. We were pleased with our share performance versus the general high street,” the company said. And among their travel stores, “extended books charts, improved display of chart titles and strong promotions have contributed to our books performance and we have also seen an encouraging […]
People: No Jones at Frankfurt, and More
With the US publication date of Sherry Jones‘s JEWEL OF MEDINA moved up from the original release of October 15, Beaufort Books publisher Eric Kampmann says she will stay in the US to promote rather than visit the Frankfurt Book Fair as originally planned. He tells the Bookseller, “This is nothing to do with threats or fear, it is simply because of the acceleration of publication.” The offices of UK publisher Gibson Square remain closed following the firebomb attempt earlier this month. At Harper UK, Christopher Wold has been promoted to international publisher, reporting to David Swarbrick, managing director of […]
