* Originally scheduled for publication in May, a spokesperson at Spiegel & Grau tells Quill & Quire that Sara Gruen’s much-anticipated novel APE HOUSE won’t be ready until late 2009 or early 2010. * As threatened, Source Interlink filed suit in a Manhattan US District Court against  American Media, Bauer Publishing, Curtis Circulation, Distribution Services, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., Hudson News, Kable Distribution Services, the News Group, Time Inc and Time/Warner Retail Sales & Marketing, asking for what Reuters calls “emergency court intervention to stop the defendants from monopolizing the wholesale magazine distribution market.” They allege the “goal is to […]

Krakauer Returns

The Jon Krakauer book on the life and death of NFL player turned Army Ranger Pat Tillman–postponed last fall after the author cancelled a BEA speaking slot–is set for publication after all. Retitled WHERE MEN WIN GLORY: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman, Doubleday has an announced first printing of 600,000 copies set for release on September 22.

Spencer Quinn’s DOG ON IT (Simon & Schuster) is the twelfth selection in the Barnes & Noble Recommends program, on sale tomorrow. Calling it “a dog lover’s mystery filled with laughs,” chief merchandising officer Jaime Carey describes it as “the first volume in Spencer Quinn’s new mystery series featuring the charming detective duo of private investigator Bernie Little and his dog Chet.”

King Story Exclusively on New Kindle?

The WSJ says “Amazon is also expected to say it has acquired a new work by best-selling novelist Stephen King that will be available exclusively, at least for a time, on Kindle.” They note “a Kindle-like device plays a role in the story.” Also, a spokesman for Prime View International, the company that manufactures the screens for both Kindle and Sony Reader says the difficult in keeping the device in stock was simply a matter of demand: “The sales were just faster than expected.”WSJ
