Ingram Combines Three Units Into One; B&T Partners with Overdrive

May 26, 2009By Michael Cader

Ingram is reorganizing to put wholesaler Ingram Book Group, Ingram Digital and Lightning Source into a single company, Ingram Content Group, under president and ceo David “Skip” Prichard. Ingram Digital chief commercial officer Frank Daniels will leave the company in July.

John Ingram says in the announcement, “When people think of Ingram, they expect a full range of content services – the physical and the digital – and they want to get what they need without having to spend one extra minute remembering which of our businesses provides which service.”

He also notes, “Over the past decade, we recognized we were moving to a ‘P+D’ world – print plus digital – and that our customers wanted P+D solutions without having to contact multiple people in our organization. So we’re organizing to make that happen.”

Baker & Taylor announced an agreement with OverDrive that will let the wholesaler offer their own Digital Media Library to library customers. Separately, they will also introduce a program for their retailer customers “to purchase digital media that their customers can then download, transfer and playback on a variety of devices.”

In the release, B&T calls the pact “a long-term digital distribution and technology licensing agreement to provide customers with downloadable e-books, audio books, music and video, and related services.”
