At St. Martin’s, director of marketing and publishing operations/hardcover Matt Baldacci and marketing director/SMP paperbacks Anne Marie Tallberg have both been promoted to associate publisher for their respective divisions. Sally Richardson and Matthew Shear praise “their enormous contributions in sales and marketing that have so contributed to our growth and health. In their new roles, they will continue to work together and with others to further our publishing goals.”

Leis Pederson has been promoted to associate editor for the Berkley publishing group.

Ruth Katcher has joined Egmont USA as editor-at-large. Most recently she was an executive editor at Harper Children’s.

Publishing Trends clarifies that Kaplan‘s recent move to have distributor Simon & Schuster sell their books was accompanied by seven layoffs, including director of national accounts Bill Huelster and Yulia Borodyanskaya in international sales and sub-rights.

The late Paul Marsh’s wife Susanna Nicklin will return to The Marsh Agency temporarily as acting ceo to continue “business as usual, as Paul would have wished,” according to a statement in the Bookseller. Marsh died of a pulmonary embolism.

In our comments section yesterday, Monika Taga at the Owls Agency wrote, “It was with a grave sense of loss and shock when we heard of Paul Marsh’s death. Paul was more than just a wonderful, intelligent, kind and compassionate person while being the chief of such well-respected agency; his personable talks of books and authors, markets and sales were actually truly interesting, and so often inspiring that we always look forward to seeing him at every opportunity we’d grab for.”
