Colman Andrews won the James Beard Foundation’s cookbook of the year award for THE COUNTRY COOKING OF IRELAND as Claudia Roden‘s A BOOK OF MIDDLE EASTERN FOOD entered the cookbook hall of fame. Amanda Patten has joined Quirk Packaging as editor. She had been at Touchstone Fireside division for eight years.

Jessica Krakoski will join Cave Henricks Communications as a publicity manager in May and will relocate to the company’s Austin headquarters in August. Most recently she was publicist at Basic Books.

Firebrand Technology has hired Dan Lee as content chief and head of a new content services group. Most recently, he had been director of digital content development at Harvard University Press.

At Random House Children’s, Geof Smith has been promoted to executive editor; Christy Webster has been promoted to associate editor; and Chelsea Eberly has been promoted to assistant editor.

At Other Press, Paul Kozlowski has been named associate publisher; Corinna Barsan has been promoted to senior editor; and Katie Henderson has moved up to editor.

In a press release, Windblown Media celebrated over 10 million copies in print in the US of THE SHACK after 100 consecutive weeks on the NYT bestseller list. Among the 36 translations, they note that the Brazilian edition from Sextante has 2 million copies in print.

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators is the latest organization to announce receipt of a $25,000 grant from Amazon.com. The funds will help support the organization’s annual Work-In-Progress grants.
