The bookseller has selected Nancy Pickard’s just-released THE SCENT OF RAIN AND LIGHTNING from Ballantine as their latest promotional “mail selection.” CFO Jaime Carey says in the announcement it “grabs readers with the main character’s personal struggle with loss. Riveting and dynamic, this moving novel will have readers enthralled from beginning to end.” The sixteenth selection in the program, it’s their first pick since Louise Penny’s THE BRUTAL TELLING last September. With the release of its 3G model, Apple says they sold their one-millionth iPad last Friday. They got there in 28 days, noting that it took the company 74 days to sell a million iPhones. Bookselling: Fire Claims Great Northwest Bookstore; BN Expands Free Shipping for Members
A three-alarm fire claimed Portland, OR’s rare/used Great Northwest Bookstore over the weekend. The 120-year-old building held more than 100,000 books.
