Cecily Kaiser will join Abrams on July 6 in the new role of publishing director for children’s books for kids five-years-old and younger. Kaiser will be responsible for “conceptualizing, launching, and managing all aspects of this new initiative.” She has been at Scholastic for the last 10 years, most recently as editorial director in the trade division for Cartwheel and Little Scholastic.

Megan Wilson has been promoted to senior publicity manager at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. She has worked in department for nine years.

At Algonquin, Michael Taeckens will be promoted in October to director of online and paperback marketing. Kelly Bowen will move up to publicity manager, and Megan Fishmann will join the publicity department in July. (She had worked in the Random House publicity department before getting an MFA at University of Virginia.)

Penguin New Zealand managing director Geoff Walker has resigned his job after 25 years with the company, saying he will “move on to pursue other opportunities.” He writes: “It’s been an incredible thrill to be associated with some of New Zealand’s best writers. But it’s time for me to change direction and try something new – and perhaps do a little less of it than a busy publishing life usually permits…. I won’t be retiring in any sense, just moving on from the corporate publishing life and doing a few things that interest me. I still plan to be around the publishing world….”
