People: Loehnen & Ferrari-Adler to S&S; New LAT Book Editor; Harvey Pekar Dies; and More

Simon & Schuster has named Ben Loehnen and Jofie Ferrari-Adler as senior editors for the adult trade imprint, reporting to Executive VP and Publisher Jonathan Karp. Loehnen joins from HarperCollins, where he has been since 2007, while Ferrari-Adler has spent the past four years at Grove/Atlantic.

The Los Angeles Times has named Jon Thurber as its new Books Editor. He spent the past year as managing editor,print, and was previously obituaries editor for 11 years.

Mindy Chon has been appointed as manager, International Sales Operations for Random House, reporting to Cyrus Kheradi. Most recently she was with Simon & Schuster as Assistant Manager of International Sales.

House of Anansi Press has announced a series of changes starting next month. Effective September 1, Barbara Howson will be VP, Sales and join Anansi’s management team. Lisa Nave rejoins the company as Rights Director after a leave of absence, with responsibility for both Anansi and Greenwood’s lists. In the Cross Media and Production Department, Production Director Sharon Bailey is leaving the company to pursue post-graduate work at the University of Toronto. As a result of Bailey’s departure, Alysia Shewchuk has been named Designer and Digital Assets Coordinator, reporting to Production Editor Erin Mallory, and Anansi will be hiring a new print production manager.

Author of the autobiographical comic-book series AMERICAN SPLENDOR Harvey Pekar was found dead in his Cleveland Heights home on July 12. He was 70 years old.
