Matt Brown has been named SVP of Scholastic and President of Klutz, the company’s “books plus” division for children, reporting to trade division president Ellie Berger. Previously Brown was co-founder and “play czar” at strategic innovation company big BOING LLC.

Helen Atsma will join Grand Central Publishing as a senior editor at the end of August, reporting to Deb Futter. She arrives from Holt, where her authors inclued #1 NYT bestseller Rhoda Janzen, Costa Prize winner Catherine O’Flynn, Eugenia Kim and Ali Shaw.

Derek Lawrence
has been named Director of Retail Sales at Interweave, effective immediately, reporting to Steve Koenig. Previously he was Publisher of Fulcrum Publishing.

Connie Hsu and Kate Sullivan have each been promoted to Associate Editor at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. 

Director of Publicity at HarperCollins Gretchen Crary is leaving after 6 years with the company in order to start a book publicity and online marketing firm called February Partners.  The company will provide full service campaigns with an emphasis on platform building for non-fiction authors, journalists, and media personalities.  Gretchen can be reached at gretchen@februarypartners.com

Technology reporter Brad Stone is leaving the New York Times for Bloomberg Businessweek. At the NYT he often covered the digital books beat, with stories on e-books, devices and the intersection of publishing and technology.
