Daniel Clancy, who has served as Engineering Director for Google Books since 2005, is moving to a new leadership role with responsibility for engineering at YouTube (also owned by Google). In the coming months, he will continue to be involved in key technology and business issues with respect to legal matters, existing partnership interactions and overall strategy for Google Books. Engineering director James Crawford will continue to oversee engineering for Google Editions, the Google Books Library Project and the Google Books Partner Program.

Author and former editor Jason Pinter will join the Waxman Literary Agency as an agent on August 2, primarily representing commercial fiction (mysteries, thrillers, suspense), along with pop culture, sports, and YA/Middle Grade fiction.

DK Publishing announced a number of promotions: Rachel Kempster has been promoted to Director of Marketing and Publicity, Mindy Fichter has been named Publicity Manager, and Laura Rose has been promoted to Director of Contracts. Also, Lauren Steffens has been hired as the new Licensed Marketing Manager. She comes to DK from DC Comics.

Ten Speed Press has hired Jenny Wapner as senior editor focusing on the food and drink list. Previously she worked as senior acquisitions editor at the University of California Press.

Janet Corson
is heading a new venture called Educational Initiatives for becker&mayer!, bringing hands-on science projects to the elementary education market. Janet was formerly COO and Publisher at Eaglemont.

Former Borders ceo Ron Marshall has been dismissed from the top job at A&P in even less time than he ran away from the bookseller after the grocer reported another poor–and worse than expected–quarter.
