January 21, 2011
By Sarah Weinman

Lynne Missen will join Penguin Canada as publishing director of children’s books on January 31. She has been executive editor at Harper Canada Children’s.

Pamela Paul has been named children’s book editor for the New York Times Book Review, starting today. She is a journalist and book critic, the author of three nonfiction books, and is a columnist for the NYT‘s Style section. Her new position with the NYTBR is part-time.

Pamela Clements has joined the United Methodist Publishing House as associate publisher for Abingdon Press’s Christian fiction program, and a new Christian Living line that debut in the spring of 2012, focusing on relationships, marriage, parenting, personal growth, prayer, and more.

At Random House Children’s, Alyssa Sheinmel and Jenny Wikoff have both been promoted to senior marketing manager.

At Matrix Productions, Aaron Downey has been promoted to Production Manager.

Rachel Jarrett is moving to Gilt Groupe as general manager for Gilt Children. She was vp and general manager of kids and specialty products at BN.com

Managing director and part owner of Aurum Press Bill McCreadie will step down from the company on January 31. A replacement has not been named. McCreadie can be contacted at bill.mccreadie@gmail.com.

The Cape Town Book Fair for 2011 has been canceled, with plans underway to bring the show back in 2012 “in a new and remodeled format,” run in parallel with the IPA Publishers Congress, set for June 12th through June 14th, 2012. The organizers say that “publishers in South Africa have voiced their support for a bi-annual Fair.” iAfrica adds that “a letter from Publishers Association of South Africa president Brian Wafawarowa indicated that one of the factors for the event’s postponement was the ‘non-participation of key publishers in last year’s Book Fair.'”

Writer’s Digest Books has partnered with Author Solutions for a new self-publishing division, Abbott Press, “devoted to helping writers improve their work and realize their dreams of getting published.” As with previous partnerships with Harlequin (for DellArte Press) and Thomas Nelson (for WestBow Press), ASI will handle sales and publishing activities for the imprint, with various publishing, marketing, and publicity packages available starting at $999.
