As part of Bloomsbury’s global restructuring, co-founder and managing director of Berlin Verlag Elisabeth Ruge will be stepping down as of March 15th.

At Henry Holt and Company, Lauren Culley has been promoted to assistant editor.

Marcus Gipps has been appointed editor at sci-fi and fantasy imprint Gollancz. Previously he was the sales and events manager for Blackwell’s.

Linda Clark Associates has been appointed literary scout for Dalai Editore,Milan (formerly Baldini,Castaldi,Dalai) effective immediately.

First Lady Michelle Obama, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and a host of film, television and sports personalities will join the National Education Association today to kick off the 14th annual national Read Across America Day and celebrate Dr. Seuss’s 107th birthday with hundreds of public school students at the Library of Congress.

Also taking place today at a ceremony at the White House, Philip Roth and Joyce Carol Oates will be among several notable artists awarded the National Humanities Medal, while Harper Lee and Donald Hall will receive a National Medal for the Arts.

National Book Award winner Jaimy Gordon, Jennifer Egan and Deborah Eisenberg are among the finalists for the PEN/Faulkner Award. The winner of the award and $15,000 prize will be announced on March 15.

Melville House has launched its first annual Booksellers Choice Awards, given to any book published in 2010 by an independently owned & operated publishing house by the voting of independent booksellers.

The finalists for the Believer Book Awards have been announced, with the winner to be named in the magazine’s next issue.

Lauren St John has won the Blue Peter Book Award for DEAD MAN’S COVE (Orion).
