People: DiPreta to Crown Archetype, Dickerman Named Penguin Press Executive Editor

Mauro DiPreta will join Crown in the newly created position of VP, Editor-in-Chief of Crown Archetype on September 7. DiPreta will be responsible for directing and overseeing the editorial operations for Archetype, Harmony, Crown Business, and Crown Forum. He will report to Crown Archetype svp and publisher Tina Constable, who says in a statement: “[DiPreta] possesses a deep understanding of the entire publishing process…has a well-established reputation as an editor and editorial leader with an uncommonly keen commercial sense, and an enviable track record of success. Over the course of his career, he has spearheaded the publication of numerous bestsellers in a variety of categories that correspond closely with Archetype’s publishing focus: among them, pop culture, sports, humor, music, and memoir.”

DiPreta is currently currently vp, associate publisher of It Books at HarperCollins, where Cal Morgan was just appointed publisher. Sydny Miner, Roger Scholl, Sean Desmond, Suzanne O’Neill, Julia Pastore, and Mary Choteborsky will report to him at Crown.

And Crown Trade Paperbacks has hired Amanda Patten as senior editor, starting today, reporting to Tina Pohlman. She will oversee paperback conversions and backlist development for Three Rivers Press, Crown Business, and Crown Forum. and will acquire and edit original titles in pop culture, humor, and practical nonfiction.

Colin Dickerman will join The Penguin Press as vp and executive editor on September 6, moving from Rodale, where he has been vp and publishing director since 2008. “Colin is that rarest of things: An editors’ editor, a consummate publishing professional, and an altogether great guy.” said president and editor-in-chief Ann Godoff in a release. Dickerman added, “I’ve watched Ann publish with passion and conviction for years, and am thrilled to have the opportunity to join her and her team at The Penguin Press. I’m looking forward to adding books to such a prestigious and vibrant list.”
