People, Etc.

October 5, 2011
By Sarah Weinman

At Scholastic, Dani Nadel has been hired as chief digital marketing officer for Scholastic book clubs and e-commerce, reporting to Judy Newman. She was most recently president at digital agency Publicis Modem since 2008. In addition, Tom Burke has been promoted to chief e-commerce officer, book clubs and e-commerce.

Christopher Davis will join Open Road as evp and chief operating officer, overseeing operations and financial matters, reporting to Jane Friedman, starting October 17. He was previously the svp of business operations for AOL/The Huffington Post Media Group.

At Scribner, Katie Monaghan has been promoted to deputy director of publicity.

Liz Hartman has joined The Book Report Network in an at-large position as director of advertising and promotion.

Bestselling author Vince Flynn, who announced in February that he was battling prostate cancer, told fans through his website that his next Mitch Rapp thriller, originally due out this month, won’t be published until February 2012. Flynn says the fatigue from radiation treatments has made it hard to concentrate. “I have never missed a pub date and it pains me to come up short on this one. I desperately wanted to keep my commitment to my publisher, the trade, and most important, you…I promise that I will do my best to make sure the extra months are worth the wait.”

Scotland-based publisher Barrington Stoke will be distributed by Lerner Publishing Services in the US and Canada under the Stoke Books name starting in spring 2012.

World Book Night has cancelled their Frankfurt Book Fair press conference, at which they intended to announce more international partnerships, but they “are not ready” to release additional details yet. Instead, the list of the lucky 25 titles to be given away in large quantities in the UK in 2012 will be announced October 24.
