Before Barnes & Noble reported third quarter results, investor Michael Glickstein of G Asset Management filed with SEC on Friday to declare a position of more than 5 percent in Barnes & Noble. But in his case, unlike more substantial investors who have filed recently, he owns primarily options to buy just under 3 million shares, exercisable within the next 60 days. (G Asset also owns a little over 41,000 actual shares of Barnes & Noble stock.) That means G Asset’s net investment cost to play this game has been just $1.6 million. People: Coady Leaving Picador As Part of Editorial Restructuring
President and publisher of Picador and editor-at-large at Macmillan Frances Coady will be leaving the company as part of an editorial restructuring of the paperback imprint, according to a company-wide memo sent by ceo John Sargent late Thursday to staff (and confirmed to us Friday.) “Over time,” Sargent wrote, “the Picador list has largely gravitated toward FSG, and more recently Holt. At the same time, we have seen shifts in the distribution of Picador paperbacks. The structural/financial model, constructed in another time, has become less meaningful. In a terse reply filed on in the Manhattan District Court Thursday via attorneys Boni & Zack, Open Road has answered HarperCollins’ claims that their ebook of Jean Craighead George’s JULIE OF THE WOLVES infringes Harper’s rights under copyright law. The essence of their reply is that “Open Road admits that the contract grants HarperCollins the right to publish Julie of the Wolves ‘in book form,’ but denies that such grant encompasses the right to publish the work as an e-book.” They deny that “HarperCollins ever intended to publish Julie of the Wolves as an e-book, and it is denied […]
