People, Etc.

May 29, 2012By Sarah Weinman

Publisher and longtime managing director at AP Watt Hilary Rubinstein, 86, died on May 22. He began his publishing career at Gollancz before moving over to AP Watt in 1965, rising to MD over a 27-year career at the agency. He continued to represent a select number of clients after his 1992 retirement and was also the founder and editor of the Good Hotel Guide, which produced editions between 1978 and 2000.

Melanie Little is stepping down as senior editor, Canadian fiction at House of Anansi Press to focus on her writing. She will continue to edit a select number of writers, including Lisa Moore and Lynn Coady. In addition, Jared Bland has been promoted to senior editor, Kelly Joseph moves up to managing editor, and Meredith Dees has been promoted to editor.

The Denver Post profiled Tattered Cover owner Joyce Meskis over the holiday weekend, saying she “occupies a key position in Denver’s cultural community. She does not write books or produce literature, but she is a leading champion and deliverer of both — perhaps the leader.”

Joining their imprint counterparts in the US and UK, Pan Macmillan Australia’s digital-first imprint Momentum will go DRM-free in August, just six months after launching.
