May 30, 2012
By Michael Cader

At Disney Consumer Products, Andrew Sugerman has been promoted to evp of Disney Publishing, taking over running the division from Russell Hampton (who held the title of president). Sugerman joined the company in 2007 and built their Disney English learning business (with over 30 language learning centers in China) and he oversees all global English language learning efforts for Disney Publishing.

Curtis Brown UK has promoted Jonathan Lloyd to chairman “following a strategic review and consultation period,” with Jonny Geller and Ben Hall acting as joint ceos “to spearhead the management of the company.” The partnership has also instituted “a new share ownership scheme, allowing the next generation of agents to take advantage of the future growth of the company,” which will give all agents at least some stake in the enterprise. Lloyd tells the Bookseller, “After 17 years of running the day-to-day goings on, it’s the right time for the next generation of the company to step up.”

The UK’s Pan Macmillan announced a series of executive changes to “refocus our senior team” on developing more direct relationships with readers and an ability to act quickly and flexibly, to “match our many talents more appropriately to the tasks at hand.” Jeremy Trevethan moves up to publisher of all Macmillan Adult books; Macmillan Children’s publisher Belinda Rasmussen takes on added responsibility for Kingfisher; and Geoff Duffield takes on the new role of creative director, responsible for author brand development internationally across Pan Macmillan’s adult and children’s publishing as well as design.

In addition, Sara Lloyd has been promoted to digital & communications director, adding marketing, publicity and external communications to her present digital leadership role; and Jonathan Atkins moves up to international director, sales and business development.

Manager of WORD Brooklyn Stephanie Anderson is leaving at the end of June to become head of readers’ advisory at the Darien Public Library in Darien, CT, Shelf Awareness reports.

Kara Watson has been promoted to senior marketing manager at Scribner.

Bertelsmann is following through with their previously-announced plans to split off printer Prinovis and all other printing operations from their Arvato division. Bertram Stausberg has been promoted to ceo of Prinovis (in which Axel Springer holds a 25 percent stake) and will run all printing operations for the company, reporting to top executive Thomas Rabe.

Author, ethicist and journalist, William Lee Miller, 86 died on Saturday after a long illness. His final book, TWO AMERICANS: Truman, Eisenhower and a Dangerous World, was published last month.
