Gretchen Young will join Grand Central Publishing on June 25 as vp, executive editor, reporting to Deb Futter. Young has spent the past fifteen years at Hyperion, most recently as vp, executive editor. “I am thrilled that Gretchen Young is joining our team,” Futter said in a statement. ” The range of books she has acquired is most impressive in both breadth and depth and I know her editorial instincts will be showcased at Grand Central.”

New Yorker fiction editor Deborah Treisman has won the Center for Fiction’s 2012 Maxwell E. Perkins Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Field of Fiction. “It seems especially appropriate for the Maxwell Perkins Award to recognize an editor who has not only edited some of America’s most distinguished writers, but who has championed so many new voices,” executive director Noreen Tomassi said in a statement. The award will be presented to Treisman at a gala ceremony and dinner on December 11.

Books & Books Westhampton Beach and the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center have joined together to create the annual Hamptons International Book and Author Festival. The three-day event is set for Columbus Day weekend. The bookstore’s owners Jack McKeown and Denise Berthiaume are directors of the nonprofit festival, and its organizing committee. Mitchell Kaplan, co-founder of the Miami International Book Fair, serve as honorary chairman.

At Chronicle, Rachel Geiger has been promoted to director of trade sales, and Holly Smith moves up to associate director of sales.
