Founding publisher of Thomas Allen Publishers Patrick Crean has joined HarperCollins Canada to oversee his own imprint, Patrick Crean Editions, which will publish between eight and 12 titles per year with a focus on Canadian literary fiction and non-fiction. “In these perilous times in publishing, editorial is under such siege by corporatism to produce, to make a profit,” Crean told Quill & Quire. “Of course, HarperCollins is that, but they really and truly seem to be devoted to the editorial function and understand it, and that’s what drew me there.” HarperCollins Canada publisher and editor-in-chief Iris Tupholme said the launch titles on Crean’s list may appear as early as May 2013: “We’re not in any rush to put together a list before it’s ready, but if Patrick has titles ready to publish then we’ll go full steam ahead.”

Michael Barrs has been promoted to associate director of marketing for It Books and Harper Design.

Darin Sennett has joined Zola Books as director of bookseller relations. He spent the past 17 years at Powell’s, where he helped build, manage and develop the store’s web presence and online retail operation.

Sally Feller joins Tor/Forge as senior publicist. Previously she was at Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers.

Christine Foye will join Simon & Schuster on September 4 as national account manager for the Pacific Northwest region. She spent the past 14 years as a sales rep at Wilcher Associates,

Kara Reilly has joined S&S Children’s as production associate, working on backlist titles. She was previously a freelance production assistant at Knopf Doubleday.

At Chronicle Books, Kim Burns has been named national account manager. She was most recently director of children’s trade and digital marketing at Bloomsbury.
