People: Christopher Little Joins Forces With Curtis Brown

August 22, 2012By Sarah Weinman

The Christopher Little Agency has entered into a new affiliation with Curtis Brown, effective immediately. The Bookseller reports that Little himself will continue to operate independently, but Curtis Brown will now take responsibility for administering related contracts and selling clients’ translation rights.

Little said in a statement that he is “delighted with this arrangement as it allows both me and my team the flexibility to expand the creative arm of my agency. We have a lot of new work in progress and announcements will be forthcoming.” Curtis Brown chairman Jonathan Lloyd added: “I am thrilled to be working with Christopher and his colleagues and the clients of his agency. I believe this could be a very interesting model for the future with benefits to both parties.”

President and coo of Nebraska Book Company Steve Clemente has also been named ceo of the company, which emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy in June. Chairman of the board Peter Reed said the change “strongly positions us for our long-term strategy. We now have a stronger balance sheet, streamlined reporting structure, and a dedicated and talented management team led by Clemente. I am confident this change in leadership will keep the team energized and focused on executing our business plan.”

Michael Campbell has joined the University of Nevada Press as marketing and sales manager. Previously he was director of business development at becker&mayer!

Nina Bawden, author of many novels for children and adults including  CARRIE’S WAR (1973) and the Booker Prize-nominated THE CIRCLES OF DECEIT (1987), died Wednesday morning at her London home. She was 87.

Digital and print sales and distribution for startup publisher Page Street Press, which launches in Spring 2013, will be handled by Macmillan worldwide, excluding Canada, where sales will be handled by Canadian Manda Group and distribution by the Jaguar Book Group.

The Center for Fiction announced eight debut novels shortlisted for its Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize:

Patrick Flanery, Absolution (Riverhead)
Ben Fountain, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (Ecco)
Peter Heller, The Dog Stars (Knopf)
Tupelo Haussmann, Girlchild (FSG)
Eowyn Ivey, The Snow Child (Reagan Arthur Books)
Kevin Powers, The Yellow Birds (Little, Brown)
Maggie Shipstead, Seating Arrangements (Knopf)
G. Willow Wilson, Alif The Unseen (Grove Press)
