Books In the News

January 7, 2013
By Michael Cader

If you don’t have the Publishers Lunch Bookateria home page on regular browser rotation yet, we’ve been featuring an ever-changing set of “Books In the News,” aggregating stories and titles of interest with a different lens than the newsletter and our trade news feeds.

Over the last few days we have highlighted the drumbeat of praise for George Saunders’ TENTH OF DECEMBER (back today with editor Andy Ward’s interview–also reconsider his Pastoralia and Civilwarland in Bad Decline); early coverage of retired General Stanley McChrystal’s memoir MY SHARE OF THE TASK; brothers Nathaniel and Simon Rich (the latter’s The Last Girlfriend on Earth publishes January 22; Boswell Book Company recommends Natasha Solomons THE HOUSE AT TYNEFORD as Downton Abbey returns; Tom Wolfe revisits Wall Street 25 years after BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES for the e-only Newsweek; NBA winner for GOBLIN SECRETS William Alexander signs with Simon & Schuster Children’s for a new book; we sold some copies of Costa first fiction award winner Francesca Segal’s THE INNOCENTS; Amazon/New Harvest release their “searingly accurate” anonymous American Idol-inspired novel ELIMINATION NIGHT this week; an online documentary celebrates “Balzac of Blurbs” Gary Shteyngart; Thomas Pynchon’s first novel since INHERENT VICE is said to be coming this fall(ish), BLEEDING EDGE; and more.

New lists feature Amazon’s January Best Books list, and more notable early January releases.

Also, a variety of publications have started running their 2013 publishing previews, including Newsweek/Daily Beast, The Millions, Huffington Post, and Flavorwire.
