Macmillan has made two agreements with digital romance publisher Entangled Publishing that demonstrate additional ways digital-first publishers and larger houses can work together. People: Weber Appointed Macmillan Trade COO, and More
Andrew Weber has joined Macmillan as global trade chief operating officer, reporting to ceo John Sargent. In his new role, Weber will be responsible for all US finance, accounting, distribution, legal, human resources, technology, M&A, and strategy functions, while also overseeing Macmillan’s UK distribution business MDL and global responsibility for trade administration and technology. Weber spent 16 years at Random House, eventually serving as svp, operations and technology, and was most recently vp, operations at e-commerce startup Bonobos. Further to Friday’s headline stats on 2012 print book sales, we have fuller information on data from Nielsen BookScan, along with our annual look at the top sellers in multiple categories. (As a reminder, Nielsen tracks print book sales only, at the point of sale.) Total print book sales for 2012 as recorded by BookScan were 591 million units, down 9.3 percent compared to 2011 (and those sales were down 9.25 percent from 2010). ReaderLink Pairs with txtr In the US
Book distributor ReaderLink (the company that used to be known as Levy Home Entertainment) has paired with Germany-based txtr as their exclusive partner US for independent booksellers and non-trade accounts, for txtr’s ebookstore and cloud-based reader. ReaderLink Digital president David Barker says in the announcement, “This partnership opens up an entirely new sales channel for our retail partner.
