People: Firebrand Acquires Tallent’s eBook Architects, and More

February 5, 2013
By Sarah Weinman

Firebrand Technologies has acquired eBook Architects, the ebook design and production company founded by Joshua Tallent. eBook Architects will continue business as usual from their Austin, TX office, serving their existing customers as well as helping Firebrand to build an “end-to-end service.” Firebrand ceo Fran Toolan says in the announcement, “Working as partners over the last few years, we’ve seen that quality and customer service are the first priorities for Joshua and his team, as they are for ours. Bringing design expertise in-house allows us to fully serve our current and future customers, and furthers our mission of providing services at the intersection of publishers, content and readers.” (As you’ll see elsewhere in today’s Lunch, we have been delighted to work with eBook Architects on the production of our Buzz Books ebooks.)

Angela Baggetta has been named managing director of Goldberg McDuffie Communications after 10 years with the firm. Baggetta has also been made a partner, as have her colleagues Megan Beatie and Kathleen Zrelak.

At Ingram, Robin Cutler has been named manager, independent publishing program,  new program that will launch in the third quarter of 2013. In addition, Pam Dover has been promoted to general account sales manager and Craig Lupinacci recently joined the company as director of international sales.

Juliet Mushens has joined The Agency Group‘s newly-launched UK literary division as an agent, working alongside the unit’s head Jonathan Conway (whose move was announced last week). Previously she was with PFD. They are working in the parent company’s existing London office (The Agency Group’s focus is as a booking agency, focused on musicians, speakers and authors.)

Lucy Abrahams is now scouting for Pax Forlag in Norway.

James Plumeri, 79, cover art director for Bantam Dell from 1985 through 2005, died February 2. He produced about 6,500 book jackets and covers for Bantam Dell, and still more for NAL (where he worked from 1970-1985) including the mass market covers for Stephen King’s SALEM’S LOT and THE SHINING.
