The Digital Combo Pass Returns

March 13, 2013By Michael Cader

Some of our readers have either this month’s Bologna Book Fair or next month’s London Book Fair up next on their agendas, but with hints of spring in the air, Book Expo America (BEA)–beginning May 29–isn’t all that far away.

We’ll hold our Publishers Launch BEA Conference on the day before the exhibit floor opens for the third year, and working with the BEA organizers and the IDPF (which holds their own digital conference at BEA), we are bringing back last year’s hugely successful Digital Combo Pass.

The combo pass means that instead of choosing between the Publishers Launch and IDPF conferences, you can go back and forth between both, with one discounted ticket. And the best deal of all is the early deal: The first 50 Digital Combo Passes are sold for $150 off the combined “early bird” prices to our shows. As we learned last year, these deep discount tickets sell out quickly, so if you are interested grab yours while you can.

For those who want to stay all day for Publishers Launch BEA only, we’re also offering $75 off our regular ticket price through the end of April.

At last year’s Publishers Launch BEA Tor first announced (and explained) the removal of DRM from their ebooks, and Ingram presented data commissioned by PLC looking at how the rise of ebooks affects what is sold in physical bookstores.
You can still view some of those presentations here.

This year’s Launch BEA roster is still being confirmed, but we’re taking a new approach conceptually: “Scale” is our major theme, as the industry reckons with the pending Penguin Random House merger, the increasing dominance of one retailer, growing consolidation among literary agencies and realignment of lists at a number of houses. We’ll be examining scalable solutions to technology, services, marketing/discovery, supply chain, digital publishing, representation and more (rather than shiny one-offs that have no clear pathway to making a difference across the business.) We have a starting overview here and will post more details as speakers and topics are confirmed. We hope you’ll join us, and take advantage of the best deals on tickets while they are available.
