In the UK, Laura Hassan has been named editorial director of Guardian Faber, the new nonfiction imprint created by Faber and the newspaper, effective August 5. She is currently editorial director at Vintage Classics UK.

Tim O’Brien has won the $100,000 2013 Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing.
Children’s publisher Charlesbridge is moving their sales and distribution to Random House Publisher Services as of January 1, 2014. The company has self-distributed since their founding in 1989. But president and publisher Brent Farmer says in the announcement, “the demands of technology and the increase in digital publishing have led us to seek a distribution partner.”
Author of I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man, What Dreams May Come, Hell House and many Twilight Zone scripts, Richard Matheson, 87, died at home of natural causes. Matheson’s honors included both the World Fantasy Award and the Bram Stoker Award for lifetime achievement.
