Editor-in-chief at School Library Journal Rebecca Miller has been promoted to editorial director of Library Journals, with added responsibility of LJ as well.  Current editor-in-chief of LJ Michael Kelley is leaving the company.

At Morrow/Avon, Emily Krump has been promoted to editor.

At the Gernert Company, Anna Worrall has been promoted to the newly created position of Marketing & Social Media Manager.

Israeli author Yoram Kaniuk, 83, died Saturday in Tel Aviv. Kaniuk wrote more than 30 books, including THE ACROPHILE (1960), ADAM RESURRECTED (1968), adapted into the 2008 movie of the same name, and 1948 (2010), published in the US under the NYRB ebook imprint.

National Geographic has agreed to a multi-year extension of its distribution partnership with Random House Publishing Services, a deal which began in 2005.

Simon & Schuster’s previously announced Customer Portal for independent booksellers is now live, with over 800 pre-registered accounts from the publisher database.

Apple announced at Monday’s WWDC conference that its forthcoming OSX Mavericks desktop operating system, slated for release this fall, will include iBooks. Users will be able to read and purchase books directly from iBooks on the Mac as they do for the iOS versions. In addition, the iBookstore app has changed the appearance of its bookshelves, which will no longer be wood-grained.
