People, Etc.

June 26, 2013By Michael Cader

At Macmillan Children’s, Caitlin Sweeny has been promoted to digital marketing manager, taking the lead in managing all digital marketing initiatives for titles and campaigns. Ksenia Winnicki has been promoted to associate digital marketing manager. Also, Susan Dobinick has been promoted to associate editor at Margaret Ferguson Books.

Becky Thomas has joined Ben Mason at the literary agency Fox Mason Ltd in the UK. She was previously at William Morris Endeavor.

Forbes releases their annual list of the most “powerful celebrities,” which bases rank on a combination of estimated earnings as well as squishier “TV/radio rank; press rank; marketability rank; and social rank.”

On earnings alone, EL James is No. 3 and James Patterson is No. 6, but who wants to see authors at the top of a celebrity power list? People who are primarily or significantly authors making the list (with the estimated pay for the measured year) include:

42 E.L. James ($95 million)
44 James Patterson ($91 million)
69 Rachael Ray ($30 million)
75 Stephen King ($20 million)
82 J.K. Rowling ($13 million)
87 Suzanne Collins ($55 million)

A separate feature offers up The Bone Season author Samantha Shannon as the next “next JK Rowling?” (aka “next Stephenie Meyer?”; aka “next EL James?”; aka “if you have to ask, no”).
