In other awards, the October Target Book Club pick is the new trade paperback edition of Ann Leary’s THE GOOD HOUSE.

The Southern California Independent Booksellers presented their awards on Friday, to books ranging from Publishers Lunch Buzz Books Spring/Summer title Tom McNeal’s FAR FAR AWAY for YA fiction to Marisa Silver’s MARY COIN for fiction.

The UK’s Samuel Johnson Prize for nonfiction announced its shortlist, which includes at least two books US readers can enjoy now:

Return of a King, William Dalrymple
Margaret Thatcher: The Authorized Biography, Volume One, Charles Moore

Canada’s Writers Trust Fiction Prize announced its shortlist, including A Beautiful Truth by Colin MacAdam, the only title available in the US so far.
