There is still no actual ceo for all of Barnes & Noble, but the Nook Media subsidiary has added two more senior executives. Mahesh Veerina will become chief operating officer on October 7. He led the global software and cloud services team of over 2,500 engineers at Motorola Mobility until 2012, and was ceo of Ramp Networks and a vp at Nokia. Doug Carlson is evp of digital content and marketing, effective immediately. Most recently he was executive chairman and managing director for Zinio — which helped create BarnesandNoble.com’s “see inside” the book previews. Both report Nook Media ceo Michael Huseby (who is also president of Barnes & Noble Inc.)
In other personnel news, Rachel Rokicki has been promoted to associate director of publicity for Crown, Hogarth, and Broadway Books.
In awards news, Dan Zevin won the 2013 Thurber Prize for American Humor for Dan Gets a Mini-Van: Life at the Intersection of Dude and Dad.
In distribution news, graphic novel and manga publisher Dark Horse Books will move their worldwide trade bookstore sales and distribution to Random House Publisher Services, effective June 1, 2014. They are currently distributed by Diamond, which will continue to handle their distribution to the comics market.
