On the events calendar, the Association of American Publishers announced some of the speakers for their annual meeting on March 19 in New York, focused on The Next Chapter in Protecting IP:  Policy, Disruption, Innovation and Sustainability. Ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet Rep. Jerry Nadler will discuss Congress’s first comprehensive review of copyright law since 1976 with AAP ceo Tom Allen.

Author Jaron Lanier will speak, as will Forrester Research analyst James McQuivey, with a keynote speaker still to be named.

Kim Hovey has been promoted to svp, deputy publisher for Ballantine Bantam Dell, continuing to report to Libby McGuire. Hovey will work more closely on the mass-market and digital-publishing programs, the nonfiction lists, as well as with the marketing and publicity departments to direct a variety of Ballantine Bantam Dell-wide initiatives. McGuire said in the announcement: “I am proud of the terrific publishing partnership Kim and I share, and I am but one of the dozens on our team who every day and in countless ways rely on her focus, strength, and heart. It is a privilege for me to recognize her incomparable contributions to our success with this promotion.”

In the Random House Publishing Group publicity department: David Moench and Cindy Murray have both been promoted to deputy director of publicity; Lindsay Kennedy moves up to publicist; and Katie McNally has been promoted to associate publicist.

Effective July 1, Pushkin Press will be distributed by Hanover Publishing Services through Random House Publishing Services.
