ABA Names New Indies Introduce Titles

April 25, 2014
By Michael Cader

The American Booksellers Association announced their summer/fall 2014 list of  Indies Introduce Debut Authors, picked “as the brightest debuts of the coming season.” You can start reading the highlighted novels by Malcolm Brooks  and Courtney Collins right now in our free ebook, Publishers Lunch Buzz Books 2014 Spring/Summer. (We published our packed sampler a little early this year, because the ABA’s Winter Institute was earlier than usual — but the bulk of the featured 40 excerpts come to market between late April and early July. So we still feature exclusive, and substantial, pre-publication looks at about 25 potential breakouts coming to market over the next few months. You can view all 40 titles together here.)

The ABA list is below; click through for the booksellers’ comments:

Fiction
Fourth of July Creek, by Smith Henderson
The Untold, by Courtney Collins
We Are Called to Rise, by Laura McBride
Us Conductors, by Sean Michaels
The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors, Even, by Chris F. Westbury
Dry Bones in the Valley, by Tom Bouman
Painted Horses, by Malcolm Brooks
Fives and Twenty-Fives, by Michael Pitre

Nonfiction
Bulletproof Vest, by Maria Venegas
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Notes from the Crematory, by Caitlin Doughty

The middle grade and YA titles were announced earlier in the year.
