People, Etc.

May 13, 2014
By Michael Cader

Karen Dziekonski has joined Penguin Random House Audio as an executive producer (she was executive producer at Harper Audio) and Laurie Hardjowirogo has joined the unit as a designer.

At Scholastic Trade, Ellen Duda has joined the company as designer. She was most recently at Sterling. In promotions, Julie Amitie is now executive director of marketing; Beth Noble is associate marketing manager; Emelia Zamani moves up to editorial manager for Chicken House and David Fickling Books; Rachel Hicks is managing editor, trade hardcover/paperback; and Nina Goffi is now senior designer.

The Target Book Club pick for June is Graeme Simsion‘s The Rosie Project (first shared a year ago as part of our pre-BEA Fall/Winter 2013 Buzz Books collection).

The Center for Fiction named their 2014 Fellows: Lisa Armstrong, Stephanie Miki Arndt, Zeeva Bukai, Elysha Chang, Su-Yee Lin, Cedrick Mendoza-Tolentino, Dwyer Murphy, Belal Rafiq, and Wil Weitzel.

In the UK, the Bookseller Industry Awards were presented. Winning publishers included Little Brown UK (publisher of the year); Jonathan Cape (imprint of the year); Harper Children’s UK (children’s publisher of the year); and Canongate (independent publisher of the year). Honored individuals included Helen Conford at Penguin Press (editor of the year), and Caroline Dawnay at United Agents (agent of the year).

Rogers Coleridge & White has appointed Gill Coleridge to succeed the late Deborah Rogers as chair of the agency. He comments: “Deb was a wonderful colleague and a very close friend. Pat, Deb and I worked together for 27 very happy years and shared a vision for the agency that bears our names. Our particular strength lies in the exceptional writers we represent and the wonderful people who work here. Deborah’s loss is totally heart-breaking and she is irreplaceable but I am thankful that together we had the foresight to put in place our very fine team who will take the agency forward. I am extremely proud to be asked to oversee that.”

For anyone planning their time at BEA, remember that our comprehensive downloadable schedule, with nearly all of the events (and signature signings) in a single spreadsheet, is available here: publun.ch/BEAschedPM
