In other awards and honors, the Chicago Tribune‘s Heartland Prizes go to The Maid’s Version by Daniel Woodrell (for fiction) and Men We Reaped by Jesmyn Ward (for nonfiction). Their 2014 Literary Award will be presented to Patti Smith.
The Caine Prize for African Writing has gone to Kenyan woman Okwiri Oduor for short story “My Father’s Head,” which the judges called “Joycean in its reach.” She is working on her first novel.
