Longtime vp, director of publicity at Penguin Maureen Donnelly, 59, died Monday at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ of breast cancer. Before joining Penguin, Donnelly worked at Simon & Schuster and New American Library in a publishing career that spanned 40 years. A wake will be held in Roselle, NJ on Wednesday, with a funeral to follow the following day. Condolences can be offered here.

Penguin Random House announced a number of appointments in the recently-united special markets department. Pam Roman is vp, director, specialty retail & wholesale sales and business development; Tammy Cabot is director, national accounts, specialty sales; Mary Margaret Callahan is director, in-house specialty sales; Christine Palomino is director, specialty field sales; and Deb Lewis is  business-to-business trade sales manager.

Catherine Cullen has joined Little, Brown as senior publicist. Previously she was a publicist at Crown. In addition, Fiona Brown has been promoted to publicity manager.

Michael Hoak has joined Yale University Press as online marketing manager. Previously he was marketing manager and digital marketing manager at St. Martin’s.

The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation will name the clay tennis courts in Riverside Park in honor of the late author Oscar Hijuelos, on the request of the Riverside Clay Tennis Association (whose board Hijuelos served on).

In distribution news, IPG will distribute print and digital books by Museyon as of August 2014 and Tantan Publishing as of April 2015.  Trafalgar Square Publishing will distribute titles by Little Island Books, Berbay Publishing, Ammonite Press, and Fine Feather Press beginning on January 1, 2015.
