Louise Braverman has been promoted to director of publicity for Penguin Books and Penguin Classics.

Jennifer Schuster has been promoted to executive editor at NAL/Celebra.

The Tarcher and Perigee imprints announced a number of promotions and new hires.  Sara Carder has been promoted to editorial director, Tarcher, while  Joanna Ng moves up to assistant editor. Brianna Yamashita takes on responsibility for Perigee as executive director of publicity and marketing in tandem with Tarcher. Kevin Howell has been promoted to senior marketing manager for both imprints, while Jillian McElgunn moves up to marketing coordinator. Finally, Lindsey Ruthen has joined as senior publicist for both imprints, while Elizabeth Gay has been named publicist. Ruthen was previously a publicist at Palgrave; Gay was associate publicist at Simon & Schuster.

Lauren Scobell has joined Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group as director, Swoon Reads. Previously she was a consumer marketing director at Nickelodeon.

Erika Dreifus has joined Fig Tree Books as media editor, where she will manage the company’s social media presence, assist with traditional marketing efforts, and work on other related projects. Previously she was director of communications for the City University of New York’s central Office of Academic Affairs.

At McGraw-Hill Professional, Casey Ebro has been promoted to senior editor in the Business Group.

At Skyhorse, Lauren Burnstein has been promoted to senior publicist.

Longtime Washington Post reviewer Carolyn See is retiring from the paper after nearly 27 years. In a blog post Book World editor Ron Charles noted See, who turned 80 earlier this year, has been “championing great books and wittily skewering bad ones for decades” and “a reliable source of encouragement, humor and defense against the self-indulgent melancholy that can prey on an editor’s mind.”

Jessica Krakorski has been promoted to vp, director of publicity at Cave Henricks Communications, an Austin, TX-based media and author relations firm.

Julia Borcherts has joined Kaye Publicity as publicist. Previously she was a columnist for RedEye Chicago and a freelance writer.

Finally, on Monday we misnoted Sam Caggiula’s title at his previous employer. He was a publicity manager at Rowman & Littlefield.
