Bradley Tops January Library Reads List, and More 2014 Best Ofs

December 12, 2014
By Sarah Weinman

Alan Bradley’s AS CHIMNEY SWEEPERS COME TO DUST, the latest in his Flavia de Luce mystery series, is the No. 1 pick for the January Library Reads list. The rest of the list recommends:

The Rosie Effect, by Graeme Simsion
The Magician’s Lie, by Greer Macallister
The Girl on the Train, by Paula Hawkins
Golden Son: Book II of the Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown
The Dress Shop of Dreams by Menna van Praag
The Bishop’s Wife, by Mette Ivie Harrison
Vanessa and Her Sister, by Priya Parmar
First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen
Full Throttle by Julie Ann Walker

Meanwhile, the Best of 2014 lists continue. Shelf Awareness picked 30 favorite titles (plus a few more honorable mentions); Gawker‘s occasional Review of Books recommended 10 books to give; and editors at the UK’s Bookseller picked their favorites as well. With almost 40 “votes” counted, our comprehensive aggregation to determine the very Best of the Best Books of 2014 is turning into a tighter race with every list, as at least 5 authors are vying for the overall honor. We’ll return with an updated count on Monday.
