People: Golomb to Join Writers House, Belden to Scribner, and More

February 12, 2015
By Sarah Weinman

At a party Thursday night to celebrate her agency’s 25th anniversary, Susan Golomb announced that she had decided it was time to join forces with a larger company, so she and her staff at the Susan Golomb Agency and clients (including Jonathan Franzen, on hand at the party, along with Rachel Kushner, William T. Vollmann, Tom Rachman and others) will become part of Writers House. The leaders of Writers House Amy Berkower and Simon Lipskar were on hand at the event to welcome Golomb and their partnership with her. “After celebrating 25 years of having my own agency, I wanted to spend the next 25 years in the company of other agents,” Golomb says in the official release. She adds, “I’m eager to join a company that has the kind of leverage that is increasingly necessary in today’s complicated marketplace. And the Writers House approach to agenting reflects the kind of attention and care to which my clients are accustomed.”

Berkower adds, “I’m thrilled Susan and her exceptional clients will be joining our agency. Susan’s great taste, her commitment to personalized service and her strong advocacy align perfectly with the Writers House culture.” Golomb, her assistant and foreign rights director Soumeya Bendimerad will relocate March 1 to the Writers House compound.

Kathy Belden will join Scribner as executive editor on March 12. Previously she was executive editor at Bloomsbury, where she worked for the past eight years. Of her impending arrival at Scribner, publisher Nan Graham said in an announcement: “Kathy Belden has a remarkable record of discovering compelling literary voices who engage with important social issues. We believe she will be a stellar colleague on the Scribner editorial team.”

At Simon & Schuster, John Cotter has been promoted to director of accounts receivable and order processing at the company’s Riverside distribution center.

Alison Weiss will join Sky Pony Press as editor on February 17, with an emphasis on middle grade and young adult acquisitions. She was previously an associate editor at Egmont USA.

The ABA announced that next year’s Winter Institute will be held in downtown Denver, CO, from January 24, through January 26.

Amazon has all 10 hour-long episodes of Bosch, their video adaptation of Michael Connelly‘s bestselling book series, available for streaming through Prime Instant Video.
