Briefs: Canongate To Publish Rhodes Memoir After Winning Legal Battle; Regional Bookseller Paperbacks From Unbridled Books
Canongate will publish British classical pianist James Rhodes‘ memoir Instrumental on May 28 as an ebook and the following week in hardcover after the UK Supreme Court overturned an injunction that banned publication. The injunction resulted from a lawsuit by Rhodes’ former wife, who claimed publication of the memoir, which details Rhodes’ childhood sexual abuse by his teacher, “were so disturbing that their son [who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome] would suffer catastrophic psychological distress if he were to read it.” In delivering the judgment Lord Toulson wrote: “There is every justification for the publication. Owner of Houston independent mystery bookshop Murder By the Book McKenna Jordan will join Minotaur Books as a dedicated outside publishing consultant to the imprint, a newly created role. BookBub Raises Another $7 Million for Growth; Vook Rebrands As Pronoun; Pandora Buys Next Big Sound/Book
BookBub announced that they recently closed another financing round of $7 million in equity and debt financing. The capital comes from the same investors who provided a $3.8 million round a year ago (led by NextView Ventures and Founder Collective, joined by Avalon Ventures and Bloomberg Beta). Co-founder Josh Schanker says in the post they “decided to take additional capital to accelerate expansion.” He also indicates that they have added over 20 employees in the last year.
