July 21, 2015
By Sarah Weinman

At HarperCollins Children’s, Alana Whitman has been promoted to senior manager, integrated marketing while Alison Noll moves up to assistant manager, integrated marketing operations.

Obituary
Owner of Merritt Bookstore in Millbrook, NY Scott Meyer died July 19. The store has been up for sale. Co-owner of nearby Oblong Books & Music said, “The work that he has done for books and authors and readers is unmeasurable.”

Initiatives
HarperCollins is the latest large publisher to launch an agent portal which will provide US-based agents with royalty statements (from June 2014 going forward), US sales data (broken down by sales channel) and anti-piracy information (as well as means to report piracy) related to their HarperCollins authors. The company says the portal may expand to other countries “based on initial feedback.” The company says they have “the ultimate goal of phasing out paper royalty statements” in favor of the portal’s online statements.

Chief digital officer Chantal Restivo-Alessi says in the announcement, “We spent a great deal of time speaking with the agent community in order to understand what information they most wanted access to and how to deliver it in a simplified, user friendly way. Our goal is to both fulfill agents’ needs and help them better fulfill the needs of their authors.” Agents who have not been contacted yet can reach out to APSupport@HarperCollins.com.
