Penguin Random House Reportedly Talking to Banks About DK Sale

The UK’s Sky News reported that it “understands that [Penguin Random House] has been in talks with investment banks about advising on an auction of Dorling Kindersley.” They add, “Sources said that Penguin Random House was ‘exploring’ a sale and that it could decide not to pursue a formal auction.” There have been no other confirming reports from additional outlets yet. A PRH spokesperson provided Sky News with the standard response: “While we don’t comment on rumors and speculation, it is business as usual at DK, which remains an important and valued member of our Penguin Random House family.” (Last September […]

Exactly as previewed by Amazon’s Canadian and Chinese sites, on Wednesday morning the company officially unveiled their new Kindle Oasis ereader — premium priced, starting at $290 with ads. (Removing ads costs another $20; adding 3G is another $70.) Per our report yesterday, the new model is thinner and lighter than ever, as long as you are not counting the charging cover, which almost doubles the weight. Back to Court: Authors Guild Petition Rescheduled for April 15

The Supreme Court finally updated the docket entry for the Authors Guild’s request to have their appeal of the Google Books case heard by the high court. After skipping the petition in the April 1 Conference, the Court is once again due to consider the Guild’s case as their next Conference, on April 15. (We will find out at 9:30 AM on Monday, April 18 if they made a decision or defer it to another date.)
