People, Etc.: Enderlin Named Publisher at SMP; Cohen Gets Holt Imprint

June 9, 2016
By Sarah Weinman

Svp, publisher for St. Martin’s Griffin and St. Martin’s Paperbacks Jennifer Enderlin has been promoted to evp and publisher of St. Martin’s Press, effective immediately, with editorial, marketing/publicity and art reporting to her. Enderlin, who has been at SMP for 23 years, will continue her role as an editor as well, and continues to report to president and publisher Sally Richardson (and subrights will still report to Richarson, too).

Richardson writes to staff: “One of the most important responsibilities I have at SMP is to ensure the company’s continued growth and line up the right people to keep it moving forward. And now is the right time for me to do this.” She notes that, “Jen’s qualifications are outstanding. Her editorial expertise is legendary, and the breadth and depth of her instincts and ability in all things publishing, from the planning, acquisition, and then execution throughout all aspects of the entire process, is unparalleled.”

Richardson adds that, “As for me… continuing as president and publisher, I will be turning many of my publisher functions over to Jen, as my role as president kicks into a new gear. Working with Don [Weisberg], and with Jen, as well as Tom Dunne, Andy Martin, Kerry Nordling, and Leslie Gelbman reporting to me, the goal is to continue and enhance the growth, profitability, and prestige of SMP.”

Betsy Gleick will join Algonquin Books as editorial director on June 27. Most recently she was creative editorial director for Audible’s Channels project, and before then was deputy editor of People. Algonquin publisher Elisabeth Scharlatt said in the announcement: “It’s exciting to bring in someone from outside the book publishing world, but who knows books and knows the larger world. Betsy’s breadth of interests and creativity will be a great addition to our already creative staff.”

At Macmillan Learning’s i>clicker, Renee Altier rejoins the company as general manager overseeing i>clicker and REEF Polling, reporting to CEO Ken Michaels. Previously she founded and managed Gateway Interactive Learning, an education consultancy.

Imprints
Author, host of Watch What Happens Live and Real Housewives producer Andy Cohen is launching a new imprint, Andy Cohen Books, at Holt. The first list of titles will be announced at a later date, but first Cohen will also publish his next book, Superficial: More Adventures from the Andy Cohen Diaries with Holt on Nov. 15. “My not-so secret passion is writing and through my wonderful partnership with Holt, I’ve become obsessed with the business of publishing,” Cohen said in the announcement. “I’m already developing shows for radio and TV, and now can’t wait to develop best-selling books written by many of the people I know who are primed to hit it out of the park.”

Holt editor-in-chief Gillian Blake added: “At the heart of Andy Cohen’s many remarkable talents, there is a pure genius for tapping into what people are craving in today’s marketplace. Books are a natural next direction for Andy, who has brought tremendous media savvy to the publication of his own books at Holt. He is an ideal partner.”
