People, Etc.

June 14, 2016
By Sarah Weinman

Julie Will has been promoted to editorial director at Harper Wave.

Allison Hunter will join Janklow & Nesbit as an agent on July 11. Previously she was an agent at the Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency.

Erin Simpson has been promoted to senior agent at the Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau.

Patti Hughes, vp, distribution publishing and special sales at Macmillan, died June 12 of complications from cancer. Hughes spent 27 years at Macmillan, over two separate tenures. “Patti was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend,” Macmillan president, sales Allison Lazarus said in a statement. “She was a rare individual who could focus on both the important details and the big picture with equal ability. She was always up for any challenge, faced the difficult moments head on, and brought humor and empathy to all that she did. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.” Details on a memorial service and arrangements are forthcoming.

Statements
With the American Library Association set to convene for their summer meeting in Orlando, FL starting June 23, organization president Sari Feldman released a statement on Monday: “The library community is deeply saddened by the tragedy at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and friends, and the GLBTQ community.” She added, “Our nation’s libraries serve communities with equity, dignity and respect. ALA will carry this legacy to Orlando. In defiance of fear, ignorance and intolerance, the library community will continue its profound commitment to transforming communities by lending its support.” The organization notes that “ALA Conference Services has reached out to our convention center partners and are working closely with them and local authorities to ensure that we will have a safe and secure conference.”
