People: Kuyper Exits BISG, and More

August 4, 2016
By Sarah Weinman

Mark Kuyper has resigned as executive director of the Book Industry Study Group, effective immediately, to “explore other areas of interest.” Kuyper joined the BISG just over a year in June 2015, relocating to New York after serving as president and ceo of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. A search is being conducted to find a replacement. “We wish Mark the very best in all his future endeavors,” said BISG board chair Tara Catogge in the announcement. “As a longtime board member and friend of BISG, Mark will be greatly missed.” Kuyper added: “I am proud of what we accomplished during my tenure, including popular new training webinars and workshops, and a modernized, efficient, data-rich, mobile office structure designed to support BISG and its members’ education and research needs into the next decade.”

Ed White has joined Highlights for Children in the newly created role of manager, retail planning and allocation, where he will oversee all aspects of Operations for Highlights’ retail business. Previously he was manager of inventory planning and analysis for the Hudson Group.

Behind the Scenes
O Magazine books editor Leigh Haber was the person who brought Colson Whitehead‘s The Underground Railroad to Oprah Winfrey’s attention, and Oprah told Doubleday publisher Bill Thomas in April she wanted to select the book and move up publication to early August, the WSJ reports.
