People, Etc.

September 6, 2016By Sarah Weinman

Dr. Adam Black will join Macmillan Learning as chief learning officer, to help “bolster the expertise and vision of Macmillan’s research and digital development teams.” Black began his career at Cambridge University Press before moving to Pearson to lead higher-education science, global digital innovation, technology for language learning and, most recently, efficacy and research. Macmillan Learning CEO Ken Michaels notes, “Exploring big data isn’t enough. We need to understand how our products work with each student, each instructor, and within each institution. Adam has been a pioneer in efficacy and product development and he will be instrumental to the future of Macmillan Learning.”

Shana Kelly has joined Einstein Literary Management as an agent, working from her home base of Denver, CO, where she has worked as a freelance editor and publishing consultant for the past eight years. Prior to that she was an agent at William Morris.

Tara Sonin has joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s as digital marketing & publicity specialist. Previously she was marketing manager at Paper Lantern Lit.

Jane Finigan has been promoted to partner at Lutyens & Rubinstein, where she has spent the past ten years as an agent.

79-year-old artist David Hockney will be a keynote speaker at the opening press conference for the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 18. Taschen will publish a 500-page, large-format edition of Hockney’s A Bigger Book later this year.

A celebration of the rich life of the late Martin Levin is being planned for the end of the work day on November 9 in New York (invitations will be mailed in about a month).
