Obituaries
Newbery winner for The Slave Dancer as well as author of Desperate Characters, Paula Fox, 93, died in Brooklyn on Wednesday. The NYT writes, “What united her output was a cool, elegant style that was haunting in its pared-down economy; minute observation; masterly control of tone and pacing; and an abiding concern with dissolution — of family, of home, of health, of trust.”

Author of the Giller Prize-winning debut A Good House, Bonnie Burnard, 72, died on Saturday. She was 72 years old. Her longtime editor and publisher Phyllis Bruce said, “She was wonderfully gifted, a revelatory writer. Nobody could understand the emotional ties and demands of family as she could. ‎I will miss her very much.”

Rights
Ed Victor Ltd‘s foreign rights will be handled exclusively by United Agents as of April 1. Victor’s head of rights Georgina Le Grice will move over to United Agents as well. United Agents took over exclusive representation of Victor’s film and television rights in 2013.

Awards
The IACP presented their extensive set of cookbook awards at their annual conference on Sunday. The full list has not been posted yet so their hashtag is the easiest way to review the winners; Vivian Howard‘s Deep Run Roots was the event’s big winner, collecting 4 awards, including cookbook of the year, best general cookbook, and the prize for a first book.
