At Amazon Publishing, Katie Finch has been named director of strategic programs. Tilo Eckardt will return to Random House Germany to take charge of Heyne’s hardcover and paperback fiction list, reporting to Ulrich Genzler. He has spent the last four year as an agent with Mohrbooks, and was previously editor-in-chief of Heyne’s hardcover imprints. At Harper Collins, Jennifer Murphy has been promoted to marketing coordinator. Sky Pony Press has promoted Alison Weiss to editor-in-chief. Amazon Gains In First Quarter, Changes Revenue Reporting Lines

Amazon reported first quarter sales on Thursday afternoon, with net revenues rising 23 percent to $35.7 billion in the first quarter, compared with $29.1 billion in 2016. Operating income was down modestly at $1.05 billion, but net income rose to $724 million — compared to $513 million a year ago, because of lower income taxes. As usual, AWS (Amazon Web Services) on its own generated most of the operating income, at $890 million. The big news is that the company recategorized some of their revenue breakouts. Sarah Hochman, editor-in-chief of Blue Rider Press and Plume, has decided to leave the publisher, as of May 10. She has been at Blue Rider since its founding in 2011. Andrea Fleck-Nisbet joined Ingram Content Group as director of content acquisition sales, reporting to Kelly Gallagher and based in New York. Previously, she was executive director of digital strategy and operations for Workman Publishing. Holly Root, an agent with Waxman Leavell Literary Agency for the past 10 years, will launch Los Angeles-based Root Literary on May 1. Agent Taylor Haggerty will join Root at the new agency. Barnes & Noble Promotes Parneros to CEO

Barnes & Noble is promoting chief operating officer Demos Parneros to ceo, with Len Riggio remaining as chairman of the board. In their awkward way the company said as much in March, when Riggio didn’t have any good answers to the state of the ceo search — if there really was a search at all — but praised their “spectacular new chief operating officer” calling Parneros “certainly a top candidate for the ceo position.” Parneros was hired in November, shortly before the previous coo Jamie Carey left the company.
